Elevated rail tracks are used where work details must be effected at the side of or underneath the vehicle. For this purpose, the hall floor is lowered below the rail level. In most cases, the hall floor between the rails is lowered further. This results in differing work levels of central and lateral work pits, which in turn provides for optimum working heights for the maintenance personnel. The compact design of the WINDHOFF rail track systems provides for maximum work areas.

In many cases, the elevated track system is integrated with other special equipment, such as wheelset or bogie drops. And lateral, front end and roof access work platforms are also requested to further optimise the number of available work levels at the train. Safety interlocks of all system components ensure the safe and simultaneous use of each work level. This greatly reduces total times required for routine or special inspection or repair work.
