WINDHOFF Bahn- und Anlagentechnik GmbH receives order from Bybanen AS for rail grinding vehicle
WINDHOFF Bahn- und Anlagentechnik GmbH has been awarded a contract by the Norwegian public transport operator Bybanen AS for the delivery of a rail grinding vehicle of type VentuS-LR SF50. Delivery of the vehicle is scheduled for 2028.
Rail grinding vehicle designed for challenging climatic conditions
Bergen is one of the rainiest cities in Europe and poses unique challenges to light rail operations due to frequent snowfall and ice formation. The new rail grinding vehicle is specially designed to meet these demands:
It combines an innovative grinding bogie for efficient rail profile treatment with a variable, bi-directional snow plough and a de-icing system for the overheadline, ensuring reliable track maintenance even during harsh winter conditions.

Modular design ensures flexible maintenance operations
The VentuS-LR SF50 is based on the proven VentuS LR platform, which features a modular design. This allows additional functions to be integrated as needed, beyond rail grinding alone. The aim is to ensure year-round operational capability while maintaining cost efficiency.

Successful collaboration for unique operational requirements
Contract negotiations and technical coordination with Bybanen AS were completed in recent months. Earlier this week, a WINDHOFF team travelled to Bergen to finalize the contract signing in person.
