Modernizing railway infrastructure: Rhaetian Railway chooses MPV® VentuS®
WINDHOFF receives an order from the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) to supply eight modern MPV® VentuS® track work vehicles. With this investment, RhB is modernizing its fleet and creating the basis for future-oriented construction and maintenance work across the entire network in Graubünden. The new MPV® VentuS® rail work vehicles will go into operation in Switzerland in 2029 and will sustainably strengthen the performance of the rail infrastructure.
MPV® VentuS®: Modular solution for demanding terrain
The MPV® VentuS® was specially developed for maximum efficiency, safety and flexibility. The modular platform concept allows different tasks to be safely combined - from classic lifting work to complex operations in alpine environments. For the Rhaetian Railway, this means: a uniform vehicle concept that is individually tailored to the steep and winding routes in Graubünden and the construction sites there.
Technical highlights of the new MPV® VentuS® for the RhB:
- Drive: Diesel-electric with 520 kW main engine plus 170 kW auxiliary engine
- Speed: Up to 80 km/h for efficient transfer journeys
- Power: 150 kN starting traction for demanding construction site logistics
- Range: Powerful crane with a radius of approx. 16.9 m
- Comfort: Damped, air-conditioned cabin for up to 7 people
- Future-proof: Optional preparation for retrofitting a traction battery to reduce emissions
More efficiency and safety in the Rhaetian Railway network
Equipped with a crane, winch, grab, work basket and the option of using a suction excavator or snow blower, the MPV® VentuS® will be used in various RhB railway districts and in cable construction in the future. The vehicles support efficient material logistics, reduce shunting efforts and shorten construction site times. At the same time, they increase occupational safety for staff through ergonomic workplaces, modern safety technology and clearly structured work areas.
